Poupou.... Re: Saturn Returns

Aloha Joce!
I can only share whatever I have experienced myself so far, still being a student of the craft.
Saturn makes approximately two returns in one's life: between 28 and 30, and between 58 and 60. It is the last planet before the Trans-Saturnians, those we can't see with naked eyes, thus representing the parts of us hidden in the subsconcious.
Symbolically, Saturn teaches, consolidates, conserves, matures and disciplines.
When one reaches the twenties, one actually LEARNS how to be an adult, by trying and both succeeding and failing. We are "old teenagers" in our twenties, as well as young adults.
As I see it - again, my own opinion - Saturn's return underlines the time for us to leave our teenage skin and show the world our adult one. Concretely, this is the time when we will have to do a hell of a clean in all that we were taught, told, made believe as kids that we had time to pratice, test and use in our teenage and young adult life.
Do these imposed values still hold any truth for you? Do they reflect your own set of values, and to what degree? What's your philosphy about respect, responsibility, money, career, life? Now is the time for you to let go of what doesn't suit your belief, keep what do and adopt your own set of values that have been learned during your young adult life, as opposed to imposed during childhood (for instance: will you get cancer if you don't eat three meals a day? What if you'd rather have two and a snack in the evening?) It's the time for you to choose according to your true self, your true needs and beliefs.
In the outer-events realm, just about anything can happen, as each human being is unique. Some are at peace with their childhood teachings and won't notice the first blow of a Saturn return. But for most of us, this is a time of questionning that leads to "a first" in our lifetime.
For personal experience, I began the study of astrology during that period, and also became single for the first time since I was 16. I adopted my own lifestyle, in spite of my upbringing: they put in my head that a woman cannot be a real one unless she is with a man. Nothing can exist if we cannot touch it (a cloud) or at least proove its existence scientifically (electricity). I chose not to believe them and see things my own way. That is just one way out of a million others Saturn will manifest itself when it returns to its natal position.
Time passes and things change, transform themselves, are in constant movement. So are humans. A Saturn return may be a difficult time... it's lesson, as it is with all important transits, is to teach us to let go of what we know to dive in the new, the unknown, and open ourselves to so far unsuspected possibilities.
There are many other people on AC who know much more than I do about astrology, and I hope they will come and share that knowledge on this very relevant topic, as we can all learn from one another.
... I remember how many times I wished to kick that planet out of the system during those years... but if you are having trouble with your Saturn return, have faith... in yourself first and foremost!
...xxx...

.... When I was 28 (many Moons ago...), I had my first child, and it was great (being a Cancerian, I would enjoy motherhood, wouldn't I!....). Does this mean that a Saturn Return isn't always THAT bad?.... I'd like to know cos when I'm 58-60, I am hoping for an easy life - retirement and all that jazz!

Hello all...subject of great interest...as Saturn heads to Taurus I'll be having my return..
The book "Astrology for the Millions" by Grant Lewi covers the topic really well, with other saturn transits as well...Try an Opp to the sun...about as fun as jumping off buildings... I agree with Poupou too, You're supposed to feel the return about one year to 18mons before it happens...I have anyway...but I am now reaping rewards after several really nasty years previously where I was forced to deal with first and fourth house issues (Pluto was crossing my asc...ugh)
Anyway, I think the best way to sum it up is "reaping what you sew" If you learned your lessons during the years previous to the return...you get some rewards that are good...if not watch out for the next return, because then you will HAVE to deal with things...
Check out the book...it's very good...I got it on the suggestion of a professional astrologer friend...

I have to wait till july for the exact date of my return...But you know I have never felt so a "peace" with myself... Here's the good side of the return (my hubby had a bad time with his...)
I have a new home...I finally feel like a "real" mom, before I kept thinking I wasn't worthy of my kids...I know the ol' self doubt...I am more centered than I have been in my whole life...It's like a lot of burdens have been lifted from my shoulders...not having to prove anything to anyone or myself...just accepting the me I have become...
So, if this is the first...I can't wait until the second one..when the wisdom hits...:)
Amazing...I got into astrology about a year ago..after coming here to AC..my life was completely in sixes and sevens...and I was into psychology trying to make sense of all the "ISSUES" that helped, and using astrology besides it...it really helped to get a grip on things..made me get into the why of me...

I actually think it depends on other aspects as well as the return...My poor friend who has really said nothing about the trouble she's had the last two years or so (she only said it's been tough...she's an Aries..) has gone through a conjuntion to her sun and as of this the return...she has deep faith though and mentioned that since her birthday has experienced a new level of spiritual understanding...She's not into astrology at ALL...so I just sent her a grin...
I went through the opp to my n.sun and it was terrible, I think it was the exercise before the track meet...this I think is the track meet...

.... Saturn return every 30 years. Great topic a personal favorite though I'm only 25! I have a large badge I bought in a secondhand shop which says "Flirty at Thirty". I've bought it in advance of my return in Gemini in the 8th. Picture a chick hatching out of an egg and you have a saturn return. We leave behind a shell of yesterdays experiences and influences if we consciously will it. Lots of people of both sexes take on major responsibility issues in their lives at 30 e.g.: mortgage, first child, marriage etc. Hope this is of help.... DB

Hi Folks,
Marc Robertson's "Crisis Ages in Adult Life" in his book "The Transit of SATURN", is the finest work ever written on this lil sucker.
Available through the AFA, 5535 South Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona 85283 or P.O. Box 22040 - Tempe, Arizona 85282.
Liz Greene, in England, also reached for its Psychological antics. Marc's work is more down to Earth.
Its main keywords would be "Self-discipline" + "Responsibility", "Structuring" "Protection", "Security" & "Focus".....It is most-like the qualities we attribute to Capricorn first, which leads us to the virtues of Aquarius secondarily when direct, but acquires the Aquarius qualities first when retrograde, and the Capricorn virtues afterwards.
Master this symbolism and you will appreciate its other main keyword = "REALITY"......its a corker!

Not to be nitpicky, but the actual saturn cycle is 29 years, and usually gets us before our 30th birthday. An exception might be that one could be born at the beginning of a saturn retrograde cycle or just before one..possibly delaying the transit slightly. The effect of each saturn return will effect the individual differently, depending on house, sign, and aspect, of course. Some seem to get slammed upon saturn return, others seem to coast right through. The saturn return however is nothing to fear. With careful and complete analysis of the natal chart, the progressions, and the other harder transiting aspects at the time, the lesson that needs to be learned at this time can be pinpointed. The saturn return is like a coming of age. One has to learn their personal limitations as an adult and come to terms with this. Sometimes one learns the personal limitations of those around them. If this is not learned at this time or previous to the 29yr return, you can bet it will come aroung again in another 29 yrs, and you'll have to try again to learn this lesson...thus some go through a mid life crisis in their 50's.....

Well I've just gone through my Saturn return (ends in June I think for sure) and I certainly would not agree with the idea that "1st returns don't usually hit hard". Maybe it is the generation I am in but I have had friends have really beastly and really inspiring returns, divorces, marriages, relocations, babies, abandonments, deaths in some cases. My return has had me get a new job which took me out of poverty and subsequently made me wonder 'what sort of person am I?', it busted up my only long term relationship (3yrs, we lived together), I got pretty sick as well,... OK, the good news? I have overcome! Here I am on the other end exiting knowing that I'm better off now than I was with my ex, my mysterious illnesses have finally passed but not without a million trips to holistic practicioners and my gaining a lot of insight on how my body works, and I've recently come to realise that I can be not begging on the street and still be a happy person. Saturn returns are about maturity, cleaning house, making way for that next 29 year cycle of life. The thing that makes it hard is that your world looks like it is falling apart and there is nothing to do. These changes are for the best in the end, but they can be really scary at the time. It has been a specially rough time for Aries and Libras in the recent past few since Sat has been conjunct and opposite our suns as well as conjuct Saturn. It's all smooth sailing from here on in?

Hi all,
My Saturn return...hmmm...natal Saturn in the 11th house square Venus in the second. The return..it kind of replayed that aspect.
The usual Saturn return thing happened when I realised that I didn't like the path I was on and re-assessed my options and changed jobs. I've always worked in large government institutions (11th house) and I swapped the security for something far more rewarding. It was a positive decision because I was dissatisfied, and was prepared to acknowledge it and realised I needed to change the situation and that it was MY responsibility, not anyone elses.
Oh as far as it re hitting Venus. I was cut off from my usual social support system and was pretty poor for a while there (but I was happy because I was working toward something I'd always wanted to do). Venus in Second was restricted by transiting Saturn in the house of friends. I was financially restricted but I had in fact made an excellent friend at the time, a very solid relationship, still going strong, one could say 'fated'.
It was interesting to experience the Venus and money connection. Yes things were very tight, but it did force me to re evaluate what was important to me, or what was of real value to me.
Saturn returns experience being positive or difficult usually depends on how Saturn is placed natally first, because that condition usually plays itself out.
Difference is when Saturn returns, rather than feeling that you're restricted by outside forces or by authority figures, you can become your own authority figure. So if you have good Saturn natally, it's likely that the return will consolidated the sense that you've 'come of age' and that your good relationship with your 'elders' is not the only thing you can rely on to get along, but you have become your own elder and can consolidate your position in your life.
Saturn returns usually get a bad rap when people aren't doing what they should for themselves and they don't take the opportunity to change that situation. They may find the situation might be changed for them by circumstances, which means they can often be on the back foot and unprepared.
This rocks one's sense of security, but it usually means that it needed to be rocked so that one can clear the deadwood and get serious.
I hope this helps.
See ya!
Nina-Marie
